As exciting as opera is from the audience, it can be even more fascinating and fulfilling from an "inside" perspective. And that's just what members of the Festival Opera Sostenuto Society enjoy.

Sostenuto members — donors of $1,000 or more per year — have an inside connection to Festival Opera, with exclusive access to private concerts with principal artists, opportunities to attend designated staging and chorus rehearsals, updates from general director Sara Nealy, and invitations to exclusive opening-night intermezzo receptions at the Lesher Center.

• The Sound of Music
Sostenuto Society members are invited to several private concerts each year. These exclusive receptions, held in private East Bay homes, feature vocal performances by some of Festival Opera's brightest stars. Previously highlighted artists include sopranos Hope Briggs and Angela Cadelago, mezzo-soprano Nicole Takesono, tenors Adam Flowers and Christpher Jackson, and baritones Bojan Knezevic and Brian Leerhuber. Members have an opportunity to get to know the artists in a social setting and hear from Nealy and company insiders about upcoming company plans and events.

• Behind the Scenes
In addition to concerts, Sostenuto members are invited to designated staging and chorus rehearsals for mainstage productions. This is a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the preparation, hard work and dedication that combine to produce magic when transported to the stage. You'll watch as stage and choral directors guide artists and choristers through movements and presentation to enhance the music and pageantry that opera is known for.

• Glitz and Glam
Sostenuto Society members are VIP's on opening night, too, with a complimentary champagne reception at intermission, special program recognition, and the opportunity to attend a pre-event function (separate purchase required) with general director Sara Nealy and select members of the production team.

Membership in the Festival Opera Sostenuto Society is as "inside" as it gets without actually having to sing on stage. And you can enjoy all of these benefits simply by donating at the $1,000-level or higher — that's less than $100 a month to be included among Festival Opera's most valued circle of supporters.
